Question: Will Government inform this Council of

policy regarding the adoption of the "alternate Saturday-off system" for staff of certain Government departments?

sir,

In the civil service, heads of departments or

government agencies have the authority to decide whether

to adopt the "alternate Saturday-off system" in respect of

or all of their staff. In · considering the

introduction of this system, they must ensure that -

any

first, the efficiency of their organisations is

not adversely affected;

second, the hours of work of the staff involved,

as stipulated in their conditions of employment,

are not reduced; and

third, services to the public are not impaired.
