changed. The admission of students without Advanced Level

would affect the recognition of exit

qualifications

qualifications by professional bodies, particularly those

in the UK. Abolition of Advanced Level would also make it

difficult for Hong Kong's students to study in

universities abroad which have three-year degree

programmes.

The second likely consequence of a move to a

four-year system is a restructuring of the secondary

school system. To retain the present sixth form structure

unchanged would probably be prohibitively expensive,

that it seems likely one of the other options, "5+1".

"4+2" or "3+3" would be adopted. The "33" option seems

recently to have attracted the most attention, but it has

a number of disadvantages,
