The project should be accelerated to provide more additional places as soon as possible.

Improvement to security ward facilities in Castle Peak Hospital

Dangerous patients on remand after committing serious violent offences and convicted offenders detained under a hospital order are at present accommodated in the same overcrowded security ward as non-offenders. Facilities need to be improved to isolate those who are tentatively dangerous.

Provision of special half-way houses

(a) Half-way houses for non-

offenders: the admission

criteria of half-way houses for non-offenders should be

reasonably lenient to admit

non-offenders with a

disposition to violence;

(b) half-way houses for offenders : the staffing provision of these half-way houses should be improved;

(c) half-way houses for target

group patients: sufficient places should be provided for the wider target group to be accommodated on a voluntary

basis.
