provision of $7.5 million for maintenance of Local Public Works. The Regional Council also spends about $3 million per annum on rural sanitation schemes, and a fairly small part of the District Board funds is also spent on these areas.

Total expenditure on new works in the New Towns and Rural townships including land formation, roads and the Government-funded utilities, amenities and facilities not included in the public housing estates for the past three years amounted to $3,030 million in 1983-84, $2,802 million in

1984-85 and $2,555 million in 1985-86. Expenditure for 1986-87 is expected to be about $2,700 million.
