would be even more serious with pharmaceutic products. We need a special authority to promote use of Chinese in the provision of specifications for all merchandise. A Chinese

Language Foundation will definitely play a useful role in this respect.

(3) bilingual project for qualifying examinations

organised by professional bodies

There is a tendency of bilingualism in the

teaching of science and social subjects in

secondary schools. This will in turn bring about

bilingualism in related studies at the tertiary level and will in the end bring

end bring changes to the

qualifying examinations organized by the

professional bodies. То go in line with the

future development of a bilingual society, there

may be a tendency for professional examinations to

be conducted in English as well as in Chinese.

The establishment of a Chinese Language Foundation

will be helpful to this development.

The Consumer Council in Hong Kong has been doing a

fine job these years. One of its services is to

carry out comparative studies of different

products. As the Council is fair and objective in its findings, its comments carry weight. It has
