who need to update and renew their skills. It is

intended that the Institute should admit its first

students in 1989.

In the medical field Hong Kong has ten

large hospitals and a number of other specialist

medical clinics and smaller hospitals. Another very

large hospital is now being built in the New

Territories and construction has recently begun on an

even larger one in the eastern district of Hong Kong

Island. The number of beds in government and

government-subvented hospitals, now about 22,000, is

expected to increase by 50 per cent over the next

decade.
