The Hong Kong Immigration Department has stopped accepting Chinese residents' applications since 15 January 1979. From then on, Chinese residents (irrespective of their sex and age) who wish to migrate to Hong Kong are to apply to the public security bureaus of the Chinese Government for a Hong Kong and Macau entry/exit permit for residence in Hong Kong. As agreed, the daily quota for the various categories of persons who come to reside in Hong Kong by the means mentioned above is 75. Upon approval, the mainlanders may depart from China on the date specified and go through the entry procedures at Lo Wu.
