The visit by Martin Lee and his delegation caused a certain

He walked out of his amount of press and Parliamentary interest. meeting with Lord Glenarthur, but not before he had left with him a letter for the Prime Minister and asked to be received by the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State in January.

3. I have submitted a draft letter to No 10, recommending that Lord Glenarthur should reply to the letter, indicating also that any delegation returning to London in January would be received by him on the same basis as before. We have discussed with Hong Kong the terms of the letter which Lord Glenarthur should send, and will now clear a full draft with them. The aim to to complete this so that Lord Glenarthur can approve a letter on 22 December.

Parliamentary Debate

The Parliamentary debate on Hong Kong is likely to take place on 20 or 27 January. It has acquired greater significance because of the interest aroused by Martin Lee's delegation. Mr George Foulkes
