When I wrote to you on 6 August I had not had a chance to look at the splendid book you have kindly given me "China the Long March". It has further whetted my appetite to visit a part of the world previously unknown

to me.

I am particularly pleased to be making a start in Hong Kong, and hope that I shall be able to see you during my stay there in September.
