Keres,

Many thanks for your letter of 14 January and the congratulations and welcome back to Hong Kong. As a good journalist you were two days in advance of the official news!

Having just gone through the process of extensive press conferences and interviews, I am now trying to find time to brief myself about my new responsibilities. I think it would be best to leave the possibility of any further individual interviews until nearer the time I am due to arrive in Hong Kong.

Could I leave it that I shall be in touch with you later about a possible interview? I have noted your long experience of interviewing successive Governors and remember well, from my own time in Hong Kong, the series of profiles you used to do and are, I hope, still continuing.

with best coste,

8-care
