I was delighted to read of your appointment as Governor of Hong Kong over the weekend and also to see that you had received a Knighthood. May I offer you my sincere congratulations. I am sure the task ahead of you is one of immense challenge which you will fully enjoy. Certainly the outcome is something in which we all take great interest and I wish you well on what will undoubtedly be a fascinating and highly stimulating job.

I imagine that you are inundated with obligations between now and the time. you take up your position in Hong Kong but, would there be any chance at all of your finding time to come and have some lunch with us in the Bank before your departure. I do hope so but I quite understand if that proves impossible.

I hope there will be an opportunity for us to meet again before you leave but if not perhaps in Hong Kong itself. In the meantime, many congratulations and all good wishes in you new position.
