Nick Ashford, Foreign Editor of the Independent, telephoned me in his capacity as President of the Diplomatic and Commonwealth Writers' Association, to invite Sir D Wilson to be guest of honour at one of the Association's lunches. He would be expected to give a short address and then take questions. It could be either on the record or unattributable.

I recommend that time permitting, Sir D Wilson agrees to this request. The lunches attract some of the better journalists in town.

You may recall that the Chinese Ambassador was a guest of the Association last year.
