KOWLOON WALLED CITY

Q.

Any comment on the announcement that the Kowloon Walled City

is to be cleared?

A.

I am very glad that the Kowloon Walled City is to be cleared.

There has been long-standing concern about environmental

conditions in the Walled City. Clearance is long over-due.

It is very good news that it is now going ahead.

Q.

Were the Chinese Government consulted?

A.

Yes. The Chinese Government were informed of the clearance

and had expressed their support for the arrangements which

have been announced.
