CALLS BY SIR DAVID WILSON ON THE ROYAL HOUSEHOLDS

1. We spoke. Lord Napier will pencil in Tuesday, 10 March, for a call on him by the new Governor. He also hopes to present Sir David to HRH that day (this might involve drinks or a meal) and will put this to Princess Margaret. Even if the Audience happens to fall on that day, PS/HRH thinks that these arrangements can simply be moved to another time on 10/3. We would not recommend a call by Sir David on Sir John Riddell at this stage. Any mention of a possible visit to China and Hong Kong by TRH in 1989 would come as a bolt from the blue to the Household, who have not yet been approached. HRH prefers to defer discussions and decisions on his visits until much nearer the time (certainly same year). Once such a visit becomes firm there should be ample opportunity. for the Governor, who, I understand, is likely to make several trips a year to the UK, to call on Sir John.
