CONSULATE-GENERAL ACCOMMODATION IN HONG KONG AFTER 1997

1. Miss Peart will have been in contact with you about a meeting I should like to hold at 4.00 on Tuesday 29 July in my office at 3 Central Buildings, Matthew Parker Street. I attach three papers that provide most of the background to this meeting: a letter from Sir Antony Acland to Sir Edward Youde of 7 November 1985, his reply of 17 April 1986 and a summary minute from Mark Bertram of OED to me of 13 May 1986.

2.

I should like the meeting to address the last paragraph of Mark Bertram's minute. These are early days, but not too early for us to put work in hand to enable us to decide how best we should arrange our future accommodation in Hong Kong.

3.

I hope, therefore, you may be able to come briefed with the background to your possible requirements and that we shall at the meeting decide how to coordinate further work. I fully recognise that we shall be unable at this stage to consider ideal establishments, and hence detailed accommodation requirements.
