2116 MX tablets seized by SDS/Wch

On 15 April 1985, SDS/Wch seized 150 MX tablets when three Chinese females were arrested in Kowloon. A search of their home at 4th Floor, 132 Shanghai Street revealed a further 1 966 tablets.

3 000 'Mandrax' tablets seized by SDS/MK

On 21 July 1985, officers of SDS/MK seized a total of 3 000 'Mandrax' tablets when they searched a taxi at Nullah Road junction of Sai Yeung Choi Street. One 18 year old Chinese male was arrested. Result: The defendant was sentenced to two years imprisonment.

10.5 kg Methylamphetamine and 4 kg No. 4 Heroin seized by NB Case Reference: AP/MRB/1098/85

On 2 September 1985, as a result of a joint investigation between NB and the U.S. DEA in Hawaii, an operation was mounted by NB officers at the check-in counter of Singapore Airlines flight SQ 2 to Honolulu. During the check-in the suspects were identified as checking in various items of luggage suspected to contain dangerous drugs. Immediately following the check in of the final suspect they were arrested. A subsequent search of the luggage resulted in the seizure of 10.5 kgs of Methylampheta- mine and 4 kgs of No. 4 heroin. The drugs were destined for Hawaii.

Result: Two Japanese males and a Chinese male were convicted of conspiring to traffic in dangerous

drugs and were each sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

Operation Against Drugs Peddling to Naval Sailors

Case Reference NB/CON[80/63|75

On 25 and 26 October 1985, the Narcotics Bureau in conjunction with the American Naval Intelligence Service mounted anti-narcotics operations in Wan Chai and Tsim Sha Tsui arcas aimed at identifying and arresting persons engaged in the trafficking of drugs to U.S. Naval personnel during their visit to Hong Kong. One Chinese male was arrested in possession of a small quantity of No. 3 heroin and useful information obtained for future reference.

Three arrested for Conspiracy

Case Reference: C/CCR/195/85

As a result of a joint operation between Narcotics Bureau officers and US DEA agents a Filipino male, an Ecuadorean male and a Chinese male were arrested and charged with 'Conspiring to traffic in a Dangerous Drug'. The operation commenced in December 1984 and as a result of a number of meetings between undercover officers negotiations were made with the three arrested persons to purchase 40 kgs. of No. 4 heroin to be delivered to the US from either Bangkok or Hong Kong. The price of $US400,000 for 40 kgs or $HK78,000 pr kg. was asked and a sample was made available for inspection in Bangkok. The final delivery did not materialize and the conspirators were arrested in Hong Kong. Result:

The four defendants were sentenced to jail terms of 14, 13, 12 and 10 years respectively while one was awarded an additional year, to be served consecutively, for possession of a forged banknote.

Four males arrested for Conspiracy

Case Reference: TST/CCR/5776-7/85

On 13 December 1985, NB officers arrested four males, an American, British, Indian and Chinese aged from 16 to 21 years when they arranged to sell an undercover NB officer a kilogram of cannabis resin in the Hong Kong Hotel. The kilogram of suspected resin was in fact a mixture of oil and the substance used in making joss sticks.
