On 22 September 1985, Customs officers of the Air Passengers Unit seized 1 kg of herbal cannabis from the luggage of a Japanese couple arriving Hong Kong in transit from Bangkok to Japan.
Result: Defendant, a Japanese male, was sentenced to 9 months imprisonment suspended for two years
and fined $1,000.

A Japanese couple had 1 kg of herbal cannabis concealed in their shoes and personal
belongings when they arrived from Bangkok.

Case Reference: AP/CCR/574-5/85
On 1 October 1985, NB officers arrested two males, one Australian and the other British, in the arrival hall of Kai Tak Airport. About 700 gms of Cannabis Resin were found in their possession together. with several small packets of heroin. The arrests came as a result of a long term monitoring of the couple's movements and they were last reported to have left Hong Kong for Nepal via Bangkok on 25 September. The drugs were worth about $50,000 on the local market.
Result:
One defendant was fined a total of $6,000 while the case against the second is pending.
