SIGNIFICANT OPIUM SEIZURES-1985
8 kgs Raw Opium seized by Customs
Case Reference: CIB/1/22-23/85
On 17 January 1985, Customs officers seized 1.5 kgs of raw opium when they intercepted a Chinese male at Lee Too House, Shun Lee Estate. A subsequent search of an address in the same building revealed a further 6.5 kgs of raw opium. Two Chinese males and one Chinese female were arrested.
Result:
The two male defendants were sentenced to two and a half and six years imprisonment respectively while the female defendant was sentenced to two years imprisonment suspended for three years.
2.7 kgs of Opium seized by EU
Case Reference: YL/CCR/597/85
On 10 February 1985, as a result of information from the public, EU officers searched some wooden huts at King Yuen Lot 112, Tin Sum Tsuen, Hung Shui Kui, New Territories where they seized 2.7 kgs of prepared opium and a bag containing three revolvers, 22 rounds of ammunition and two holsters. One Chinese male was subsequently arrested at Lo Wu.
Result: The defendant was sentenced to seven years imprisonment.
380 gms Opium seized by SDS
Case Reference: YL/CCR/856/85
On 6 March 1985, SDS/YL stopped and searched a 61 year old Chinese male in Castle Peak Road and seized 385 gms of raw opium he was carrying.
Result: Defendant was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.
900 gms Opium seized by SDS at Opium Divan
Case Reference: WCH/RB/1826/85
On 8 March 1985, SDS/W scized 900 gms prepared opium and three opium pipes when they searched 69 Connaught Road West, 6th Floor. One Chinese male was arrested.
Result:
Fined a total of $10,500.
6 kgs Raw Opium seized by Customs
Case Reference: CIB/1/84/85
On 15 March 1985, Customs officers seized 6 kgs of raw opium, two Chinese males, who had recently arrived from China, were arrested.
Result:
Defendants absconded whilst on Court bail.
3.7 kgs Opium seized by RSDS at Divan
Case Reference: TW/CCR/967/85
On 16 March 1985, RSDS/NT seized 3.6 kgs of opium dross, 93 gms prepared opium, one opium pipe and smoking apparatus when they raided Ground Floor, 22 Sau Lam Kok, Tsuen Wan. Two Chinese males and one Chinese female were arrested.
Result:
The two male defendants were sentenced to 18 months and two and a half years imprisonment respectively while the female defendant was acquitted.
710 gms Opium seized by SDS
Case Reference: MK/RB/1504-5/85
On 25 April 1985, SDS/MK officers seized 710 grams of prepared opium when they searched a premises at 1st Floor, Block H, Kwong Hing Street, 18 Shantung Street. They arrested a 60 year old Chinese male.
Result: Defendant was fined $1,500.
3 kgs Opium seized by RSDS/HKI
On 7 June 1985, RSDS/HKI seized 3 kgs of prepared opium when they arrested a Chinese male on the staircase of 522 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai.
