Manufactured No. 3 Heroin.

Manufacturing Centre Neutralized and 11.5 kgs Heroin seized by NB

On 13 December 1985, after a period of investigation, Narcotics Bureau officers seized 11.5 kilograms of No. 3 heroin when they raided a heroin laboratory in a residential flat in Kiu Kiang Street, Sham Shui Po. The laboratory was in production at the time of the raid and 11 kilograms of No. 3 heroin was under production and approximately 0.5 kilograms was packed in half ounce packets. A drying cabinet, micro- wave oven, a very large quantity of caffeine and other equipment associated with heroin manufacture were also discovered.

A total of four connected addresses in Kowloon were raided. In one Fa Yuen Street premises. approximately 90 kilograms of caffeine was discovered. The owner was arrested and subsequently charged. Result:

One defendant pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment; he later gave evidence for the prosecution and his co-defendant was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 14 years imprisonment.
