The object of this Ordinance is to increase the penalty for the common law offence of conspiracy to defraud, to bring it into line with the penalties prescribed in other Ordinances for comparable offences involving fraud.

2. The opportunity is also taken to remove the references to attempts in section 90(2) of the principal Ordinance. Similar provision is contained in section 81(1), making section 90(2) unnecessary.

3. Before the Governor assented to the Bill in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty, the Attorney General advised that he could properly do so.
