I believe you mentioned that you had heard complaints in Hong Kong that countries like Australia and Canada are more liberal in their immigration requirements than we are. Naturally each country has its own policies appropriate to its circumstances. I would not wish to comment on the policies of these countries but our own relationship with Hong Kong is close. Many people come from there to the UK as visitors or students or for permanent settlement and I can see no reason why this should not continue in the future.
I hope that what I have said above will give you some useful background to the complicated business of nationality and immigration where there is a Hong Kong dimension. I am copying this letter to Lord Geddes who also expressed an interest in these matters.
