As suggested in para 7 of FCO Telno 940 to Tokyo I called on the Deputy Director of North East Asian Division of the MFA on 19 December to brief him on the outcome of the JLG's fifth meeting. Mr Jeon was duly grateful and confirmed that the MFA appreciated our keeping them informed in this way.

I also took the opportunity of going over the ground on BN (0) passports. After asking some questions about consular protection for BN (0)'s in countries where the PRC was also represented, Mr Jeon said that the Korean Embassy in London and Consulate-General in Hong Kong had already communicated Seoul's acceptance of the new BN (0) passport. He also said that the Korean Government would extend to BN (0) passports the present visa-free arrangements for HK BDTC passports (ref para 5 of Hong Kong Telno 3567) Perhaps you could confirm that this is the case and if there is any further action you would wish us to take here.
