Certificate of Identity holders are not eligible for the status of
BN(0) and for BN (0) passports. Only British Dependent Territories Citizens,
by virtue of a connection with Hong Kong, can acquire that status and passport.
Q5. Can Certificate of Indentity holders acquire British Dependent Territories
citizenship?
A. Certificate of Identity holders might be eligible for naturalisation as
British Dependent Territories citizens and thereby become eligible to BN (0)
status and the related passports.
Q6. There is a 5 year time limit on some types of application under the British
Nationality Act 1981. When does the time limit count from?
A. The time limits in the BNA 81 count from 1 January 1983, when the Act came
into force.
Q7. Are LEPS entitled to British citizenship by virtue of their employment in
Crown Service?
A.
No.
LEPS may apply for British citizenship but it is unlikely that this
will be granted unless they have long and outstanding service and some connection
with the UK.
