British Dependent Territories citizen Gibraltar

Their passports will also bear the endorsement on nage 5 that 'Holder is defined as a United Kingdom national for Community purposes'.

CHANNEL ISLANDERS AND MANXMEN

7.

British citizens from the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man have the right of abode in the United Kingdom, but not all of them will have the right of free movement for employment or establishment in other Member States of the Communitv. Article 2 of Protocol No 3

of the Treaty of Accession, signed in Brussels on 22 January 1972, states that Channel Islanders and Manxmen shall not benefit from Community provisions relating to the free movement of persons and services; Article 6 of the Protocol defines a Channel Islander and a Manxman.

8. Passports issued before 1 January 1983 to Channel Islanders and Manxmen who did not qualify for free movement as above described the holder's national status at the foot of page 1 as 'British subject: citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies', with the endorsement on page 5 that 'Holder has the right of abode in the United Kingdom, but has no right to employment or establishment in the remainder of the EC'.

Passports issued after 1 January 1983 will describe the holder at the foot of page 1 as 'British citizen' with the endorsement on page 5 that 'Holder is not entitled to benefit from EC provisions relating to employment or establishment'. The reason for slightly modifying the wording of the endorsement is that it will no longer be necessary to state that British citizens have the right of abode in the United Kingdom.
