FAMILIARISATION VISIT TO THE FCO BY CONSERVATIVE PARLIAMENTARIANS: 9 DECEMBER

1.

Two points arose during today's lunchtime discussion that require follow-up action:

(i)

Mr John Watson asked for details of total staffing levels in Eastern European and Soviet Embassies in London, compared with similar figures for our Missions, UK-based and locally-engaged, in Moscow and Eastern Europe. Mr Eggar promised to write (EED, Soviet Dept and PPD).

(ii) The Earl of Buckinghamshire was interested

in policy on immigration from Hong Kong. Mr Eggar promised to write, copying his letter to Lord Geddes. Before drafting, HKD may wish to have a word with the Earl of Buckinghamshire to see whether he can be a little more specific. He can be contacted on 0844 290435 (Home) or 626 3575 (Office).
