The Hong Kong (British Nationality) Order 1986 was

made on 5 June 1986 and will come into effect on 1 July

Under the Order, British Dependent Territories

citizens (BDTCS) who derive their citizenship from a

connection with Hong Kong will cease to be BDTCs from 1

July 1997. In addition, one of the main provisions of

the Order is to create а new category of British

nationality, namely British National

National (Overseas) (BN(0)).

This new status may be

in that year before 1 July) by BDTCs who derive their

citizenship from a connection with Hong Kong. The status
