Dear Sir,

I understand that in 1997 Hong Kong will be "handed over" to China. It may be that in the years leading up to 1997 there will be a substantial influx of Hong Kong residents into the United Kingdom and as such residents are likely to require housing it appears possible that the Government will request Local Authorities to provide housing.

I will be grateful if you will let me know what the Government's view is of any likely inilux, particularly as regards numbers and dates of entry.
