Sir Patrick Wall (Beverley): To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, which categories of people now in Hong Kong will be permitted to enter Britain for settlement on the hand-over of the colony to the People's Republic of China.

Besides those with the right of abode in the United Kingdom and who are thus
entitled to come here there will be former servicemen in Hong Kong who served
in the defence of Hong Kong in the Second World War and their dependants, and those meeting the requirements of the Immigration Rules applying at the time.
In addition,
will be admitted at
other
very limited
cases
the discretion of the Secretary of State but this will be on a very limited
basis for people who have been exposed to special factors and considerations.
