An endorsement to be added to the right of abode stamp in BN (0) passports of non-Chinese non-residents "until 30 June 1997". If possible, the ID card could carry an expiry date of 30 June 1997. A permanent ID card could be issued if the holder took up permanent residence in Hong Kong and the endorsement on the right of abode stamp could then be deleted, or a new passport issued.
