International acceptance of BN (0) passports

I must apologise that we have overlooked the

need to reply to Tony Galsworthy's letter of 6 June

1985 to John Boyd on this subject.

We have no particular comments on your

proposed tactics for seeking international acceptance

of BN (0) passports and for ensuring that existing VAAS will continue to apply to holders of BN (0) passports.

As a matter of courtesy, we would like to call in the Consuls-General and Commissioners here with whom we made preliminary soundings on the BN (0) question, to hand them over copies of the Third Person Notes and to answer any queries they may have. Would you be agreeable to our proceeding in this way? If so, could we have copies of your Notes? We will let you know their reactions. We would like also to have opportunity to comment on the Notes in draft.

The question of VAAS is a very sensitive one. We should be most grateful if you could emphasise to your overseas posts the importance of the present VAAS applying to HK BDTC and BN (0) passports. (Any exlcusion of HK BDTCs from existing VAAS would not augur well for their continued application to BN (0) passports).
