Those eligible will have to have been registered as BN (0)s and acquired BN (0)

passports by that date. This is because the UK Memorandum associated with the agreement states, inter alia, that the new status (namely BN (0)) will be acquired by Hong Kong BDTCs only if they hold or are included in a BN (0) passport issued before 1 July 1997 (or 31 December 1997 in the case of children born in the first six months of that year).
