CONCLUSION
The right
No former BDTC will be left in 1997 without a place to call home.
of abode provision will apply to all non-ethnic Chinese Hong Kong BDTCs unless
- they have left Hong Kong for good (or indeed perhaps never been there) and
they have the right of abode elsewhere.
Of course, those who do have a right of abode elsewhere, and then decide to
return to Hong Kong, will have to meet the 7 year residence requirement before
they can exercise their right of abode in Hong Kong. Similarly, children
born outside Hong Kong after June 1997 to non-ethnic Chinese former BDTCs
will not have the right of abode in Hong Kong until they have returned there
to live for 7 years.
