Dear Sir Peter
I enclose a letter from an old
friend and colleague in Hảng Kong, Paul Tsui Ka-cheung, which is I think self-explanatory.
The book "B.A.A.G" by Edwin Ride (@xford University Press-Hong Kong) has voluminous appendices giving the names of all who served with the Unit. On a quick count, there are 14 non-European names listed with military rank. There are also some 30 named as Agents and Runners (and some 70 listed by number only) who could be considered as having been operational. 215 civilian staff are listed, from domestic staff upwards, but I suggest these can be left out of account.
Amongst the first two categories, I would suggest that not more than half of the 44 -say 20- would still be alive, still in Hong Kong, would have had British status; and
would still be anxious to retain it.
