nationality, We are, therefore, pleading that the individuals concerned be givc peace of mind by being assured that they will have a place to resort to should events not turn out as planned. The predicament in which those who fought a good fight now find themselves cannot be "the lasting honour" envisaged by Winston Churchil1.
A further matter of concern is whether, and in what manner would the Royal British Legion (Hong Kong & China Branch), the Hong Kong Prisoners of War Association and the Second World War
Veterans Association be allowed to function after the transfer of
sovereignty to China. As these organisations were established with the set purpose of helping the British Ex-Serviceman, it is feared that interference of whatever nature or kind will cause great hardship financially, medically and otherwise to those who are meant to be helped. The work of the Legion is too well known
to require elaboration. The future of these organisations is a
matter which requires serious consideration.
