RESOLUTION

The European Parliament,

A.

on the European passport

having regard to the agreement by the Heads of State and Government in Rome on 3/4 December 1975 and by the European Council in Fontainebleau on the introduction of the European passport,

3. having regard to the resolutions adopted on 23 June 1981 and on

30 June 1982 by the representatives of the Member States' Governments meeting in the Council on the introduction of the European passport by 1 January 1985 at the latest,

Calls on the Governments of Belgium, the Federal Republic of Germany, Greece, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom to take all the necessary steps to ensure that the European passport can be introduced throughout the Community before the end of June 1985;

Calls on the President of the Council and on the Commission to use their influence with the individual Member States with regard to the intro- duction of the European passport, and to report back to Parliament at its June 1985 part-session;

3. Calls on the Member States to charge their citizens no more for the

European passport than they have done hitherto for a standard passport;

Calls on the Council, the Commission and the Governments of the Member States to take all appropriate steps (where necessary identical and simultaneous steps) to ensure that the European passport is recognized in third countries, particularly those which have no diplomatic relations with the European Community or do not recognize it;

Instructs its President to forward this resolution to

the Council, the Commission and the Member Governments and to the parliaments of the Member States.
