Come July 1997, you're still stuck in Hong Kong? have one option: political asylum.

Canada accepts most refugees who seek that status in Canada. So get to Canada and then cry "political asylum."

Or, fly to East Berlin (on Aeroflot or LOT via Bangkok). don't need a visa. Take the subway to West Berlin and claim political asylum. Thousands do this each year...most just want a better life--but as minorities at home...they face persecution, however mild. West Berlin's unique status makes it hospitable to refugees. It'll take several years for your case to be decided. Meanwhile, you'll be a guest of the West German taxpayer. If you're convincing--"I'll be persecuted if sent back to Hong Kong"--you'll receive West German citizenship.
Of course, these facts are current as of 1984 and may change by 1997--or next year.
