information on alternative for expatriate civil servants

overseas appointments currently serving in Hong Kong.

2.

Briefly, as part of their continuing policy to Localise the Hong Kong civil service, the Hong Kong Government envisage that a number of expatriate civil servants now serving in Hong Kong will become available for appointment to other overseas posts (short or Long term) over the 11 year period between now and the reversion of Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty in 1997. Those available for appointment will cover a wide range of expertise and experience including police officers, administrators, and technical experts (eg auditors). Hong Kong are keen to provide these officers with the best advice they can on the alternative opportunities which might be available to them for overseas appointments elsewhere. We would wish to help Hong Kong as far as we can in their efforts to provide this advice.

overseas.

3. A key element will therefore be to ensure that Hong Kong are provided swiftly and promptly with up-to-date details of whatever information you yourselves receive and circulate on appointments that become available Could you consider providing Hong Kong (specifically the Civil Service Branch of the Hong Kong Government Secretariat) with a wide range of such information on a regular basis? I should be grateful for your views (subject to which we might then discuss the mechanics of despatching this information to Hong Kong on a regular basis?)
