To monitor the progress of localisation in the public service and provide assistance to departments experiencing difficulties in this area.

Latest Position

During August, a total of 12 overseas appointments were made (1 Senior Lecturer, 4 Lecturers (Graduate), 1 Senior Operations Officer, 1 Senior Medical & Health Officer, 1 Senior Electronics Engineer, 1 Superintendent of Police, 3 Con- fidential Assistants). Over the same period, 26 overseas officers departed bringing the working strength of overseas officers at the end of the month to 2,720 (a reduction of 92 since 1.4.86), of which 462 were in the directorate ranks.

Civil Service Training

To keep under review the existing training policies and to recommend changes where necessary to meet the needs of the civil service.

In order to strengthen management development training for senior departmental staff, 11 officers have been nominated to attend training programmes overseas and have been placed on appropriate courses in 1986-87.

For training at the supervisory level, CSTC has developed a training package which can be tailored to individual departmental requirements. Departmental training officers will be trained to make use of these packages.
