Thank you for sending me the cartoon about Tim Renton.

I do in fact see the Far Eastern Economic Review from time

to time: it is received in the FCO.

The nationality questions associated with the draft Order in Council which was debated in Parliament in January

are still being considered here. These questions always seem to have wide ramifications for more general policy on nationality and immigration, and it is often difficult to see the right way forward. But the views expressed so ably by LegCo and ExCo members are being fully taken into account.

I hope you will not mind if I forbear to take up some

of the other points you made in your letter: events are moving all the time. It might well prove awkward, for example vis-a-vis Teddy Youde and Denys Roberts, if I went into those matters in too much detail in personal

correspondence.
