VIETNAMESE REFUGEES IN HONG KONG

During the preparation last year of our response to

the report on Vietnamese refugees of the Home Affairs

Committee's

Sub-Committee on Race Relations and

Immigration (SCORRI), Leon Brittan and I discussed in some

detail the problem of Vietnamese refugees in Hong Kong.

2. As a result of these discussions, I was glad that we

were able to accept SCORRI's recommendation that we

should resettle in the UK some 500 refugees from camps in

Hong Kong and elsewhere in South

in South East Asia. Since the

publication of our reply to SCORRI last September we have

been active in using this decision as the basis
