The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs presents its compliments to the Embassy of the United Kingdom and has the honour to inform the Embassy with reference to its Note of 13 May 1986, that in the cases 1-4 and 6-24 on the list of Vietnamese refugees submitted by the Secretary of Security in Hong Kong, the Federal Ministry of the Interior cannot, after careful consideration, agree to an admission of these refugees into Austria.

In particular, the case of the family PHAN, consisting of 16 members, has been brought to the attention of the Austrian Consulate General by the British authorities in Hong Kong.

Two members of this family had been considered for admission into Austria some time ago. But as these two persons insisted on the integration of all of their relatives as well, the Ministry of the Interior were, after careful consideration of the matter, not able

to agree to the admission, as the integration into Austria of such a large number of dependent family members would entail great problems.

The appropriate Austrian authorities are, however, willing to take into consideration other less problematic cases for possible integration into Austria.

The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs takes this opportunity to renew the assurance of its highest consideration to the Embassy of the United Kingdom.
