Dear David,

UNHCR INFORMAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (EXCOM) MEETING: 13 JUNE: VIETNAMESE REFUGEES IN HONG KONG

1. I attach a copy of the UK statement at the UNHCR informal EXCOM meeting on 13 June, which concentrated on the Indo-Chinese refugee problem with particular reference to Hong Kong.

2. We have thanked the Missions of the eight countries listed in paragraph 3 of your telno 222, and the Norwegian Mission. Incidentally, with regard to the Norwegian offer, Mr Volfing told me that he had been informed in Oslo that 75 of the 100 places would be for Hong Kong "long-stayers". (Oslo telno 122 of 10 June and Hong Kong teleletter of 20 June refer). He added that Finland might take up to 100, but the most welcome part of Finland's offer was that they would take families that contained handicapped persons.

Yours sincerely,

Delia.
