FRG Political Situation

4. Genscher said that the Government parties were passing through a temporary slump, but that they would win through, not least because the other side had not succeeded in putting together a convincing alternative. As to Lower Saxony, he admitted he was uncertain both whether the SDP would get into the local parliament and also whether the CDU and FDP together would have a majority there even if this did happen. But as of today he was betting that they would pull it off.

Miscellaneous

5. Genscher confirmed that he would receive Dr David Owen on 5 June. He asked various questions about the political scene in Britain.

6. Genscher will come to Britain with the Federal President on 1 July, but will only stay for the London part of the State Visit.
