Speech by the Secretary for Security
in the Legislative Council on Wednesday,
19 November 1986, to the motion
"That section 18 (3) and Parts VIIA and VIIB
of the Immigration Ordinance
shall expire on 31 December 1987"
I move the motion standing in my name
the Order Paper.

Section 18 (3) of the Immigration Ordinance
was enacted in January 1979 to remove the limit of
two months during which an immigration officer may
remove a person refused permission to land in Hong
Kong, if it appears to the Director of Immigration
that that person was previously resident in
Vietnam. This subsection will expire on 31 December
1986 unless extended by resolution of this Council.
