Dear Mr. Best,
I am writing to seek your advice and assistance in connection with WUS (UK)'s activities in the field of refugee education. We have been most concerned at the decline in recent years of British government support for refugee training programmes through the voluntary agencies, a decline from over £3 million in 1980 to £0.75 million in 1985.
Of immediate interest to us are programmes related to Ethiopia, Chile and South Africa. I attach three notes on these explaining our concern at the reduction in ODA support for Ethiopian refugees and the return of Chilean refugees, and our belief that now more than ever there is a need for increased educational support for the victims of apartheid in South Africa.
I should very much welcome the opportunity of meeting with you in the near future to discuss these questions. A copy of our Annual Report is enclosed which gives you an indication of our organisation and its activities. Perhaps you could suggest a time when it might be possible to meet.
рр
Yours sincerely,
Рия Нартай
Nigel Hartley, General Secretary.
