I received yesterday a letter dated 8 April from

Julia Meiklejohn of Refugee Action. In her letter she says that she will be meeting you on 22 April to discuss procedures for the UK family reunion cases.

I may be worrying needlessly but I am concerned that this organisation may be attempting to play one of us off against the other. I have seen papers (by accident) which suggest that Refugee Action may be using the refugee situation in order to seek additional staff and funding in UK.

Insofar as the family reunion procedures are concerned, we are now quite happy with the way things are going. As you are probably aware we were worried initially that the offtake never reached our target figure of 40 per month. Now we are averaging in excess of 40 every month.

The problems, such as they are, arise because of the Voluntary Agencies insistence on using their own lists of refugees. We, therefore, frequently receive requests to resettle refugees who:-
