Swedish Resettlement Quota

When I was in Geneva, the Swedish representative Marie Sjolander made it clear that her government would entertain requests for resettlement of Hong Kong's refugees only through UNHCR Headquarters in Geneva. Accordingly, I met Sjolander again with Feldmann and Cooper and we agreed on the type of request which would be submitted by the UNHCR (a list of individual refugees). The same principle applied to family reunion cases.

We have been informed by our Embassy in Stockholm that no specific request has been submitted by UNHCR Headquarters either for general resettlement or for family reunion. We have been asked to enquire whether you would forward to Geneva a list of refugees who might be resettled in Geneva and a list of Swedish family reunion cases,
