I have always hoped that the rate of industrial accidents will drop and have always felt that workers should only use their labour and not their lives to earn

Man can only live once and so man's life is precious. This preciousness lies in the fact that it is the man himself, and not in the wealth, social status, money, authority owns. In other words, no matter whether you are a rich or important person or an ordinary man, the safety of your life should similarly be treasured. The safety of the lives of workers should also be treasured by the society.

Sir, the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Officers and Safety Supervisors) Regulations tabled today are long awaited by the general labour force and labour unions. According to relevant information, members of the Labour Advisory Board had, as early as 4.6.1981, discussed and agreed at their meeting to implement the proposals of the above regulations. Obviously, this issue has long been a matter of public concern. I am glad that it can be introduced for approval by this Council today.
