In fact, works above ground will only include the construction of the

administration building, toll booths and the road network which will

be carried out within the Anderson Quarry and will not affect the

village houses. Besides, according to the report by the Director of

Engineering Development, as the sea-front Crown land and the quarry

can provide enough space for the dry dock for building concrete caissons,

clearance of village houses is not necessary. Moreover, the area of

land acquired through clearance is so small that it will be of no

use to the MTR and the crossing. As MTR works are carried out under-

ground and do not affect the land above ground, structures on the

ground should not be affected either.

The 2-storey structure at Nos. 21 & 22, Cha Kwo Ling Main

Street (Lot 624 in D.D. 3) has been the ancestral home of the indigenous

Tang family for five generations. It is standing on a plot of private

land. The family can produce title deed and Crown rent receipts to

prove this.

The said structure which is situated on a hill overlooking the

cliff is over 35 metres away from the proposed MTR line. It will not

affect the MTR and the site is not suitable for any works. The

village houses at

Nos. 25E (HD clearance No. KT/DA/A/3/1-6) and

25H (HD clearance No. KT/DA/A/1/1N) Cha Kwo Ling Main Street and the Hop Yee Lung Dragon Boat Shed (No. KT/DA/A/14/1-16) which was licensed

by the Lands Department in 1960 and the village houses numbered HD No.

KT/DA/A/10/1-3 all lie outside the "works area" as shown on the plans

and have nothing to do with the rail/road link scheme.

However, the

Housing Department ignores this and forces us to move somewhere else.

According to the plans, Cha Kwo Ling Road will be realigned

and structures at 25G & 25K Cha Kwo Ling Main Street as well as the

neighbouring village houses will be affected. But the proposed realignment

has yet to be finalized and commencement date for the work has not yet

been decided. If the proposed realignment is to fit in with the

opening of the East rn Harbour Crossing, works will not begin untill 1988,
