This has caused traffic utilities to make way for the LRT. congestion and inconveniences to the area and adversely affects businesses of shops along the roadworks sites. I am given to understand that the Government will consider giving compensation to losses resulted from such roadworks as governed by the Roads (Works, Use and Compensation) Ordinance, and that the KCRC will also look into the same when railway construction work is being carried out. In my opinion, it would allay the worries of the people whose businesses are affected by the construction work if the Secretary for Transport would clarify the matter and make a statement to that effect.

The environmental impact, especially the noise level that may be generated by the movement of trains has also caused a lot of concern amongst residents living close to the proposed LRT routes. In the absence of any environmental impact feasibility report, I hope the KCRC would direct their attention to this and, if possible, supply the Tuen Mun and Yuen Long District Boards with reports on statistics and noise level generated by the movement of LRT trains, and steps to be undertaken by the Corporation to minimise disturbances caused to local residents.
